Overview

Zinc finger CCHC domain-containing protein 2 (ZCCHC2) is a member of the zinc finger CCHC-type (“zinc knuckle”) superfamily, characterized by a CCHC zinc-binding motif (C-X2-C-X4-H-X4-C). Like other ZCCHC proteins, ZCCHC2 is thought to bind nucleic acids, especially single-stranded RNAs, suggesting a role in RNA metabolism. The broader family is implicated in a variety of RNA regulatory processes, including transcription, splicing, translation, and degradation. However, there is minimal direct functional, disease, or drug interaction annotation for ZCCHC2 specifically, and it is not considered a therapeutic target. Expression profiling suggests a role for ZCCHC2 may be mainly in fundamental cellular RNA processing. Key points: ZCCHC2 is a nuclear zinc finger (CCHC-type) protein with RNA-binding capability. It is not currently a drug target, disease biomarker, or characterized in disease pathogenesis. Its biological function is likely in general RNA metabolism, as inferred from related family proteins.
