Zinc finger CCHC-type containing 7 (ZCCHC7) is a protein-coding gene member of the ZCCHC superfamily, characterized by at least one CCHC-type zinc finger domain that mediates high-affinity nucleic acid binding, especially to single-stranded RNAs. ZCCHC7 functions primarily in nuclear RNA surveillance and degradation via its interaction with the nuclear exosome and PAPD5 as part of a mammalian TRAMP-like complex. These molecular activities participate in the accurate 3'-end formation and polyadenylation of RNAs including rRNAs, snRNAs, and snoRNAs, and elimination of excised RNA by-products, thereby maintaining RNA quality control and processing in the nucleolus. Disease association has been noted particularly in acute leukemias, but direct targeting by drugs or biomarker/clinical safety evidence is not currently available.
