Zinc finger HIT-type containing 2 is a human protein encoded by the *ZNHIT2* gene and contains the novel zinc finger HIT (zf-HIT) domain, which binds two zinc ions in a cross-brace configuration using a conserved CCCC-CCHC motif[1]. The zf-HIT domain is a compact fold comprised of two antiparallel β-sheets and two short helical segments, and is considered a new member of the treble clef superfamily of zinc finger domains[1]. Although zinc finger motifs are generally involved in DNA, RNA, or histone binding, the zf-HIT domain does not appear to bind nucleic acids or histone H3 tails and may function instead as a protein–protein interaction domain in the nucleus[1][2]. Its biological role remains to be fully clarified, but related proteins have been implicated in gene regulation and chromatin remodeling. There is currently no evidence identifying Zinc finger HIT-type containing 2 as a therapeutic drug target, nor as a disease biomarker or pharmacological concern[1].
