Zinc finger protein 100 pseudogene (ENSG00000268278) is a non-functional genomic sequence derived from the zinc finger protein 100 gene. Pseudogenes arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and typically contain disabling mutations (such as frameshifts or premature stop codons) that prevent the synthesis of a functional protein product. Unlike functional zinc finger proteins—which are usually transcription factors with DNA-binding abilities and important roles in gene regulation—pseudogenes are mostly considered genomic “remnants” and are not classified as therapeutic targets, although some may have minor regulatory functions through RNA-level mechanisms[1][5].
