Zinc finger protein 114 (ZNF114) is a member of the C2H2-type zinc finger protein family, which constitutes one of the most abundant groups of transcription factors in the human genome. These proteins contain characteristic zinc finger domains that coordinate a zinc ion with cysteine and histidine residues, enabling them to bind DNA and regulate gene transcription. ZNF114 is believed to function primarily as a transcriptional regulator, influencing the expression of target genes involved in cell development, differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis. The broad ZNF family is implicated in processes such as chromatin remodeling and cell signaling and has disease relevance for cancer, neurodegeneration, and other conditions, although direct evidence for ZNF114’s involvement in a specific pathology is lacking. There are currently no drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns directly attributed to ZNF114, and it is not considered a canonical therapeutic target.
