Zinc finger protein 136 (ZNF136)

Target
ZNF136
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein, KRAB domain-containing protein
01

Overview

Zinc finger protein 136 is a transcription factor encoded by the ZNF136 gene in humans. It contains a KRAB A-box at its N-terminus with weak transcriptional repressor activity, followed by fourteen C2H2-type zinc finger domains and one degenerate zinc finger. Its molecular function is primarily in RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory sequence-specific DNA binding and zinc ion binding. ZNF136 may modulate host cell transcriptional responses, notably during viral infections such as hepatitis C. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing. ZNF136 is mainly classified within the zinc finger and KRAB domain family of transcriptional regulators.
