Overview

Zinc finger protein 160 (ZNF160) is a Kruppel-related zinc finger transcription factor characterized by an N-terminal KRAB (Kruppel-associated box) domain, which imparts strong transcriptional repression activity[1][2][7]. ZNF160 binds DNA to regulate gene expression, including epigenetic silencing through histone deacetylation and DNA methylation by recruiting scaffold proteins like KAP1 and associated chromatin modifiers[2]. It is involved in transcriptional regulation processes, including modulating inflammatory responses in intestinal epithelial cells by repressing TLR4 gene transcription, thus maintaining immune homeostasis[2]. Although encoded as a protein-coding gene with several transcript variants, ZNF160 is not currently recognized as a direct therapeutic target (receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.), nor are there known interacting drugs or reported safety concerns[1][2][7]. Disease association is minimal, with limited reports linking it to patellar chondromalacia[1].
