Zinc finger protein 161 homolog pseudogene (ENSG00000260251, LOC100421259) is a DNA sequence in the human genome annotated as a pseudogene and related to the protein-coding gene ZFP161 (encoded by ZBTB14)[5]. As a pseudogene, it does not produce a functional protein product and is not believed to participate in typical biological processes. The functional homolog, ZFP161, is a member of the C2H2-type zinc finger protein family, which are DNA-binding transcription factors responsible for the regulation of gene expression, maintenance of genome stability, and modulation of transcriptional networks involved in neuronal signaling and DNA damage responses[1][2][6][5][4]. Pseudogenes such as LOC100421259 are generally non-coding and not regarded as molecular therapeutic targets[3][5].
