Overview

Zinc finger protein 165 is a member of the Kruppel family of zinc finger transcription factors, containing five conserved C2H2-type zinc-finger motifs and an N-terminal acidic SCAN domain[1][6][7]. It is primarily expressed in the testis but is found at low levels in other tissues and aberrantly reactivated in several cancers, where it acts as a cancer/testis antigen[1]. ZNF165 modulates transcription by binding DNA and forms a complex with SMAD3 to coordinate transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) signaling, contributing to oncogenic gene regulation and cell survival in triple-negative breast cancer; it also acts with other co-factors in tumors[2][5][7]. Its immunogenicity in cancer contexts and restricted normal tissue expression profile make it a candidate for cancer immunotherapy research, though specific therapeutic agents targeting ZNF165 are not currently documented[1][2][6].
