Zinc finger protein 169 (ZNF169) is a DNA-binding transcription factor belonging to the C2H2-type zinc finger protein family, and is encoded by the ZNF169 gene located on chromosome 9q22.3[1][4]. ZNF169 functions by binding RNA polymerase II transcription regulatory regions and directly interacts with the promoter of the ANKZF1 gene, upregulating its transcription[2][3]. Overexpression of ZNF169 promotes cell proliferation and suppresses apoptosis in colorectal cancer models, suggesting an oncogenic role—especially via the ZNF169/ANKZF1 axis[2][3]. The expression and function of ZNF169 in other tissues and cancers is still being investigated, but bioinformatic and cell-based studies implicate it in cancer progression and possibly other transcriptional regulatory pathways.
No drugs are specifically known to target ZNF169 directly. Theoretically, drugs that inhibit the ZNF169/ANKZF1 axis could act by suppressing ZNF169-mediated transcriptional activation, thereby reducing cell proliferation and improving apoptosis in cancer (inferred from disease mechanism studies)
