Zinc finger protein 184 is a KRAB-domain, C2H2-type zinc finger transcription factor robustly expressed in the human brain and other tissues. It binds DNA via zinc finger motifs and represses transcription of target genes. ZNF184 is implicated in cancer susceptibility and neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, where reduced ZNF184 levels correlate with disease state. Its regulatory function involves direct binding to promoter regions (e.g., ILF3), modulating gene networks relevant to cell survival, metabolic processes, and oncogenic signaling. While not currently a direct target of approved drugs, its pathway components (such as miR-7 in PD) may be pharmacologically modulated.
