Zinc finger protein 197 (ZNF197) is a human protein encoded by the ZNF197 gene, containing 20 C2H2-type zinc finger motifs, a KRAB (Kruppel-associated box) domain, and a SCAN box. It belongs to the zinc finger protein superfamily and acts as a transcription factor likely involved in regulating gene expression through DNA binding. The ZNF197 transcript is characterized by rapid turnover, indicated by 3' UTR AUUUA motifs. It has been found overexpressed in certain papillary thyroid carcinomas and is associated with familial erythrocytosis types 3 and 5. The protein is clustered with other zinc finger genes on human chromosome 3p21.
