ZNF2
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein, C2H2-type zinc finger

Overview

Zinc finger protein 2 (ZNF2) is a member of the zinc finger protein family, specifically the C2H2-type, and is presumed to function as a transcriptional regulator by binding DNA. Zinc finger proteins as a class are the largest family of transcription factors in the human genome, involved in diverse roles such as gene regulation, cell differentiation, apoptosis, and immune response. However, the exact biological and disease roles for ZNF2 specifically are not well characterized, and no direct therapeutic targeting, biomarker, or safety concern information is available. ZNF2 is encoded in humans by the ZNF2 gene. Like many zinc finger proteins, it likely modulates gene expression by binding to DNA through its zinc-coordinated finger domains. The broader zinc finger family is implicated in a number of diseases, especially cancers, but ZNF2 itself does not have well-documented disease links or drug interactions in published literature to date. No evidence was found that ZNF2 is currently recognized or targeted as a therapeutic protein or receptor.
