Zinc finger protein 223 (ZNF223)

Target
ZNF223
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, DNA-binding protein, KRAB-domain zinc finger protein
01

Overview

Zinc finger protein 223 is a human protein encoded by the ZNF223 gene, located on chromosome 19. It contains a Kruppel-associated box (KRAB) domain and multiple zinc finger motifs, characteristic of a large family of DNA-binding transcription factors. While the precise biological function of ZNF223 has not yet been determined, by analogy to other KRAB zinc finger proteins, it is presumed to play a role in transcriptional regulation through sequence-specific DNA binding[3][4][7]. There is no evidence that ZNF223 itself is a therapeutic target, biomarker, or is targeted by any approved drugs. The gene has several known paralogues and belongs to a diverse protein family that is prominent in gene expression regulation[1][2][3][4][6][7].
