Zinc finger protein 226 (ZNF226) is a human protein encoded by the ZNF226 gene located on chromosome 19q13. It features multiple C2H2-type zinc finger motifs and a Kruppel-associated box A (KRAB-A) domain, characteristic of a large family of transcriptional regulators. The KRAB domain typically mediates transcriptional repression by recruiting corepressor complexes. The protein is predicted to bind DNA or nucleic acid, consistent with other zinc finger proteins, but its exact genomic targets and regulatory roles have not been established. While thousands of zinc finger proteins, particularly those with KRAB domains, are essential in fine-tuning gene expression and evolution of transcriptional networks, the specific biological functions and disease associations of ZNF226 remain largely uncharacterized[2][4][1].
