Zinc finger protein 232 (ZNF232)

Target
ZNF232
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein, SCAN domain-containing protein
01

Overview

Zinc finger protein 232 (ZNF232) is a predicted DNA-binding transcription factor and member of the SCAN domain subfamily of C2H2-type zinc finger proteins, encoded by a gene located on chromosome 17p12[1][2][3][4][5]. It contains a SCAN domain, enabling protein-protein interactions, and five C2H2 zinc fingers, which mediate sequence-specific DNA binding[1][5]. ZNF232 is suggested to localize to the nucleus and is expressed in a wide range of human tissues, with possible tissue-specific regulation through alternative splicing[1][2][3]. Its probable function is the regulation of gene transcription by RNA polymerase II, though its specific physiological or therapeutic roles are not well-defined and there are no known drugs targeting this protein[2][3]. Diseases associated with ZNF232 include kidney rhabdoid cancer and congenital myopathy 4A, but its precise contribution is not established[3].
