Zinc finger protein 253 (ZNF253)

Target
ZNF253
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, DNA-binding protein, Zinc finger protein
01

Overview

Zinc finger protein 253 is a member of the zinc finger protein family, characterized by the presence of Cys2His2-type zinc finger motifs that mediate binding to specific DNA sequences. It is predicted to enable DNA-binding transcription factor activity, specifically RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding, and appears to be involved in the regulation of DNA-templated transcription. Some functional evidence also suggests transcriptional repression activity. The protein is predominantly localized in the nucleus. ZNF253 has been associated with rare genetic conditions such as hypertrichosis universalis congenita, Ambras type. There are no well-established disease roles beyond gene-disease associations, nor known drug interactions or established biomarker applications for this target at present[2][6][7].
