Zinc finger protein 256 (ZNF256) is a human protein encoded by the ZNF256 gene that belongs to the Krueppel C2H2-type zinc finger protein family, which is one of the most abundant classes of transcription factors in mammals[10][3]. ZNF256 is characterized by containing multiple zinc finger motifs, typically facilitating sequence-specific binding to DNA and repressing transcription of target genes—primarily by acting as a transcriptional repressor[9][3][5][6]. These proteins play roles in regulating gene expression, influencing cell growth and differentiation, and are involved in transcriptional repression via interaction with co-repressor complexes such as TRIM28/KAP1[9]. ZNF256, like other members of this family, is implicated in fundamental cellular processes, but there is currently no specific or direct evidence for its use as a therapeutic drug target, nor is it associated with particular drugs, disease biomarkers, or safety concerns in the existing biomedical literature[3][5][9][10].
