Overview

Zinc finger protein 267 (ZNF267) is a Kruppel-like transcription factor that binds DNA and acts primarily as a transcriptional repressor, notably suppressing the MMP-10 gene promoter in hepatic stellate cells and thereby limiting extracellular matrix degradation, which promotes fibrotic liver remodeling. Its expression is regulated by nuclear factor Y and is markedly increased in liver pathologies such as fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. ZNF267 is further inducible under hypoxic and oxidative stress conditions (notably through HIF1α and ROS signaling), and it contributes to tumor cell proliferation and migration in liver cancer. While primarily studied in liver disease and malignancy, ZNF267 and related zinc finger proteins may play broader roles in other cancers, as suggested by emerging evidence in colorectal cancer, but it is not considered a classic therapeutic target at present[1][2][3][4][6].
