Overview

Zinc finger protein 268 pseudogene is a non-protein-coding genomic sequence that shares homology with the functional zinc finger protein 268 gene[5]. Zinc finger protein pseudogenes are usually the result of gene duplication or retrotransposition followed by sequence divergence that disables their coding potential. While most pseudogenes are non-functional, a minority may be transcribed and can play a role in regulating their parental gene or in gene expression dynamics through RNA-mediated mechanisms. This pseudogene does not encode a zinc finger protein and is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor in drug discovery or clinical contexts[5][3]. Zinc finger proteins themselves are characterized by their C2H2-type motifs, which enable DNA binding and regulation of transcription—functions that are not present in the pseudogene[4][1].
