Zinc finger protein 28 (ZNF28)

Target
ZNF28
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein, C2H2-type zinc finger protein
01

Overview

Zinc finger protein 28 (ZNF28) is a member of the zinc finger protein family, characterized by the presence of zinc finger motifs that coordinate zinc ions and stabilize the protein structure. Members of the zinc finger protein family usually function as transcription factors, binding to DNA and helping regulate gene expression by RNA polymerase II. ZNF28 is predicted to localize to the nucleus and to play a role in transcriptional regulation, but its specific molecular function, target genes, and physiological roles remain poorly characterized. ZNF28 is not currently classified as a direct therapeutic target, and there are no drugs or specific disease associations definitively linked to this gene. The protein is encoded on chromosome 19 and has several known aliases, reflecting prior gene nomenclature. As with other zinc finger proteins, ZNF28 may contribute to fundamental cellular processes through gene regulation but individual biological or disease associations are unconfirmed to date.

Disease associations

There is no direct evidence of disease association except that genes in the zinc finger protein family have been implicated in chromosomal deletion syndromes such as Chromosome 19q13.11 deletion syndrome; role in cancer or other specific diseases is not established for ZNF28
