Overview

Zinc finger protein 283 (ZNF283) is a KRAB-domain containing transcription factor with 16 C2H2 zinc finger motifs, encoded by the ZNF283 gene on chromosome 19 in humans. It is primarily localized to the nucleus and predicted to enable sequence-specific DNA binding and regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II[2][3][6][7]. Experimental evidence in swine cells indicates it mediates antiviral effects by inhibiting RNA synthesis of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) through interaction with viral proteins and direct binding to viral RNA regions, but its antiviral role in humans is not established[1]. ZNF283 has genetic associations with Zellweger syndrome but is not known to be a direct therapeutic target or a clinical biomarker[2].
