Zinc finger protein 285 is a human protein encoded by the ZNF285 gene located on chromosome 19 and is part of the large zinc finger protein family, which is characterized by the presence of zinc finger motifs that facilitate binding to DNA. The primary role of this protein family is the regulation of gene transcription, often by interacting with specific DNA sequences via C2H2-type zinc finger domains. While zinc finger proteins are widespread and critical for various cellular functions, Zinc finger protein 285 itself is primarily classified as a putative transcription factor with limited direct disease association or therapeutic targeting evidence.
