Zinc finger protein 296 (ZNF296) is a DNA-binding transcription factor belonging to the C2H2-type zinc finger protein family[3][7]. It is primarily involved in sequence-specific double-stranded DNA binding and is predicted to act as a transcriptional regulator, including as a transcriptional corepressor in association with proteins such as KLF4[3][7]. ZNF296 plays roles in negative regulation of dendrite development and spermatogenesis, and evidence from animal studies shows critical importance for heart development and cardiomyocyte differentiation by regulating alternative splicing of genes crucial for cardiac function[1][2]. It is expressed most strongly in testis and embryonic stem cells[8], and its dysfunction is associated with cancer, including bladder sarcoma[3]. No drugs currently target ZNF296 directly, and it is not considered a conventional therapeutic target like receptors or enzymes.
