Zinc finger protein 299, pseudogene (ZNF299P) is a nonfunctional segment of DNA that bears sequence similarity to members of the zinc finger protein family, especially those proteins that act as transcription factors by binding DNA with their zinc-coordinated finger domains. The term pseudogene indicates that ZNF299P is not predicted to encode a functional zinc finger protein, distinguishing it from active members of the large and diverse zinc finger family involved in transcriptional regulation and other cellular processes. As such, ZNF299P is not considered a therapeutic target, and there is currently no evidence for its role as a biomarker, drug target, or functional protein in health or disease.
