Zinc finger protein 302 (ZNF302) is a member of the C2H2-type zinc finger protein family that contains seven C2H2-type zinc finger motifs and a KRAB (Krüppel-associated box) domain. These structural features are characteristic of transcription factors that bind to DNA and may play a role in the regulation of gene expression, although the precise function of ZNF302 itself has yet to be determined. The gene is located on human chromosome 19, and alternative splicing variants have been described. C2H2-type KRAB zinc finger proteins are known to have significant roles in development, especially in the brain, through the regulation of neural stem cell activities and suppression of retrotransposon activity, but direct physiological or pathological roles for ZNF302 have not been reported. Associations with disease include mapping within regions affected by chromosome 19q13.11 deletion syndrome and GM1-gangliosidosis, type III, likely due to chromosomal proximity rather than direct functional implication. Interactions with drugs, biomarkers, therapeutic mechanisms, or safety concerns are currently unknown.
