Overview

Zinc finger protein 320 (ZNF320) is a member of the Kruppel-like zinc finger protein family, characterized by its finger-like DNA-binding domains that require zinc ions for structure stabilization. ZNF320 functions as a transcription factor, meaning it directly binds DNA and regulates the transcription of genes, and is believed to play roles in both activation and repression of gene expression. Gene ontology annotations associate it with nucleic acid binding and RNA polymerase II-specific transcription factor activity. ZNF320 has been implicated in regulating the cell cycle, as well as in processes like cell proliferation, immune infiltration, and possibly the response to stress. Recent studies suggest ZNF320 acts as a hypomethylated prognostic biomarker in hepatocellular carcinoma, correlating with poor prognosis, immune cell infiltration, and dysregulation of cell cycle-related genes, but there are currently no known drugs targeting this protein nor characterized mechanisms of action for therapeutic modulation.
