Zinc finger protein 34 (ZNF34) is a member of the zinc finger protein family characterized by C2H2-type zinc finger motifs and a KRAB-A domain, functioning primarily as a transcriptional repressor[1][2][7]. It is predicted to regulate gene expression by binding specific DNA sequences and modulating transcription by RNA polymerase II[1][2][6][8]. ZNF34 is localized mainly in the cytosol and nucleoplasm and is expressed in several tissues, with notable expression in the brain[1][4]. Variants in ZNF34 have emerged in genetic studies as candidates influencing susceptibility to major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder, potentially through alteration of transcriptional repression in neural tissues[1]. There is currently no evidence that ZNF34 serves as a direct therapeutic target for any known drugs, nor is it recognized as a clinical biomarker or known for specific safety concerns[1][2][7].
