Zinc finger protein 383 (ZNF383)

Target
ZNF383
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein, KRAB (Krüppel-associated box) domain-containing protein
01

Overview

Zinc finger protein 383 is a member of the KRAB-related zinc finger protein family and is encoded by the ZNF383 gene in humans. It is predicted to function as a transcriptional repressor, mainly inhibiting the transcription of genes that are part of the MAPK signaling pathway. The repressor activity is conferred by its KRAB domain, which is typical for a subset of zinc finger transcription factors. Its biological roles are closely linked to regulation of gene expression, particularly through DNA binding. Associations with disease are minimal, with some evidence pointing to a possible role in prostate carcinoma in situ, but ZNF383 is not currently considered a major therapeutic target.
