Zinc finger protein 384 (ZNF384) is a C2H2-type zinc finger protein that functions as a transcription factor involved in the regulation of genes important for extracellular matrix remodeling, such as MMP1, MMP3, MMP7, and COL1A1[1][2]. The protein is encoded by the ZNF384 gene, which contains long CAG trinucleotide repeats encoding consecutive glutamine residues. ZNF384 directly promotes the transcription of Cyclin D1, thereby facilitating cell cycle progression and cell proliferation. Clinically, it is implicated in cancer biology: ZNF384 overexpression is associated with poor prognosis and increased recurrence in hepatocellular carcinoma, and recurrent gene rearrangements involving ZNF384 (notably fusions with EWSR1, TAF15, and TCF3) are observed in acute leukemias, defining specific disease subtypes and playing roles in leukemogenesis[1][2][3]. ZNF384 serves as both a potential prognostic marker and a novel therapeutic target in certain cancers, though no specific drugs or mechanisms of action targeting ZNF384 are currently established in clinical practice[3][2].
