Zinc finger protein 428 (ZNF428)

Target
ZNF428
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein (C2H2-type), DNA-binding protein
01

Overview

Zinc finger protein 428 (ZNF428) is a ubiquitously expressed nuclear and cytoplasmic protein in humans, containing classical zinc finger domains that enable it to bind DNA and potentially regulate transcription. The gene is located on chromosome 19 (19:43,607,223-43,619,639; reverse strand) and has several transcripts. Zinc finger proteins form one of the largest protein families, characterized by DNA, RNA or protein-binding functions, and are widely involved in transcriptional regulation, differentiation, development, and other cellular processes. While several related zinc finger proteins are implicated in disease (cancer, neurodegeneration), there is currently no published evidence specifically linking ZNF428 itself to any disease state or known drug interactions.

Disease associations

No specific diseases currently linked to ZNF428; other zinc finger proteins are involved in cancer, neurodegeneration, diabetes, and skin disease, but direct roles for ZNF428 in disease are not established
