It shares sequence similarity with protein-coding zinc finger genes but does not encode a functional protein due to disabling mutations or truncations. As a pseudogene, it does not participate in regulatory, enzymatic, receptor, or transporter functions and has no known role as a drug target or biomarker. Zinc finger protein pseudogenes may reflect evolutionary remnants of gene duplication events.
