Zinc finger protein 444 pseudogene 1 (ZNF444P1) is a processed pseudogene in the human genome related to the protein-coding gene ZNF444, which encodes a zinc finger transcription factor involved in activation of certain scavenger receptors[3][4][5]. As a pseudogene, ZNF444P1 contains DNA sequence similar to the parent gene but typically harbors disabling mutations or lacks necessary regulatory sequences and does not encode a functional protein[2][3][4]. While most pseudogenes are “genomic fossils,” some are transcribed as noncoding RNAs with possible regulatory roles, such as acting as miRNA sponges or influencing gene expression via RNA interference pathways[2][6]. However, there is no specific evidence that ZNF444P1 itself is transcribed or functional in this way, and it is not considered a therapeutic target nor a validated biomarker[3][4]. The related protein-coding gene ZNF444 participates in transcriptional regulation and is classified under the zinc finger family of DNA-binding transcription factors[5][9].
