Zinc finger protein 446 is a member of the C2H2-type zinc finger protein family, which are characterized by finger-like DNA-binding domains stabilized by zinc ions[1][2][4]. ZNF446 contains both a Kruppel-associated box (KRAB) domain and a SCAN domain, features typical of some transcriptional repressors and protein-protein interaction modules, respectively[3][4]. This protein is implicated in the negative regulation of transcription through inhibition of transcriptional activities at specific response elements such as SRE and AP-1, thus contributing to the regulation of gene expression[3][9]. While general roles for zinc finger proteins include transcriptional activation, DNA recognition, and various regulatory processes, there is currently limited evidence for ZNF446 being a direct therapeutic target, and no drug interactions are reported. Associations with disease are currently limited and largely inferred from genetic association rather than function[1]. ZNF446 is encoded on human chromosome 19 and shares pathways related to gene expression and transcription[1][5][9].
