Zinc finger protein 479 is a member of the human C2H2-type zinc finger protein family, distinguished by its KRAB domain, which supports transcriptional regulation via DNA binding and recruitment of co-repressors or co-activators. ZNF479 was first identified in testis cDNA libraries and is expressed in various tissues. It is implicated in promoting cell proliferation and tumor growth in hepatocellular carcinoma, functioning in gene silencing and activation via modulation of target genes such as metallothionein-1 (MT-1) through regulatory proteins (e.g., ASH2L, DNMT1, UHRF1, Menin). Disruption or overexpression of ZNF479 alters cell growth, gene expression, and tumor phenotype, making it a candidate for future therapeutic targeting or biomarker utility in cancer biology.
