Overview

Zinc finger protein 491 is a member of the zinc finger family, which constitutes one of the largest and most diverse groups of DNA-binding proteins in the human genome[1][2][3][4]. Zinc finger proteins such as ZNF491 possess motifs stabilized by zinc ions that enable flexible binding to diverse substrates, notably DNA, and are most commonly associated with transcriptional regulatory functions[1][2][3]. The C2H2 motif is the most predominant structural domain type among zinc finger proteins and confers sequence-specific DNA-binding ability, often functioning as transcription factors[1][2]. Zinc finger proteins participate in fundamental cellular processes including gene expression regulation, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and chromatin remodeling[3][4][1]. While many zinc finger proteins are increasingly recognized for their associations with disease, including cancer, there is currently no direct evidence that ZNF491 itself is a therapeutic target, is involved in currently approved therapies, or serves as a clinical biomarker[1][4][3]. As of now, ZNF491 is best characterized by its family membership and presumed transcription factor activity, with molecular and clinical functions likely to emerge as genome-wide functional studies progress. If more specific ZNF491 data (such as interacting partners, disease associations, or tissue-specific expression) become available, those structured fields can be updated accordingly.
