Zinc finger protein 503 (ZNF503) is a member of the zinc finger protein family, characterized by the C2H2-type zinc finger domain, which mediates DNA binding and transcriptional regulation[2][3]. It is a nuclear transcription factor, predicted to function mainly as a transcriptional repressor and is involved in the negative regulation of both cell population proliferation and gene expression[3][6][1]. ZNF503 has key roles in cell differentiation, including the G1 to G0 transition, and embryonic developmental processes such as morphogenesis of the camera-type eye and hindbrain formation[1]. Its gene is expressed broadly in several tissues[4] and has been implicated in disease contexts such as coloboma of the macula[3]. Although zinc finger proteins as a class are therapeutically targetable and relevant to cancer biology, specific small molecule or biological drugs interacting with ZNF503 are not known, nor is ZNF503 currently established as a clinical biomarker or a direct drug target[3][6][2]. There are no prominent safety concerns or therapeutic challenges uniquely associated with ZNF503 documented in the literature.
