Overview

Zinc finger protein 517 is a member of the C2H2-type zinc finger transcription factor family, characterized by multiple C2H2 zinc-finger domains enabling sequence-specific DNA binding and gene regulation[1][3][5][2]. It is predicted to act in the nucleus, regulating transcriptional activity via RNA polymerase II and possibly influencing chromatin structure. While the ZNF family as a whole plays major roles in transcription regulation, genome stability, and diverse cellular processes (including cell cycle, differentiation, and cancer), ZNF517 itself has limited functional characterization and is primarily associated with Clark-Baraitser Syndrome at the genetic disease level[1][5][6][2][4]. There is currently no evidence that ZNF517 is a drug target or interacts with therapeutic agents, nor is it identified as a clinical biomarker. - ZNF517 should not be confused with functionally distinct ZNF family members (such as ZNF750 or ZNF185), which have clearer roles in cancer or other diseases. - Classification and function are supported by both gene-centric databases and protein domain analysis; however, functional and disease role assignment remains largely predictive and not experimentally validated for therapeutics. - No contradictions or significant data gaps identified regarding the target’s identity or classification in the results.
