Zinc finger protein 529 (ZNF529) is a human transcription factor characterized by the presence of zinc finger domains, which facilitate binding to DNA and regulation of gene expression[1][3]. Recent genetic studies indicate that loss-of-function variants in ZNF529 lead to increased expression of the hepatic LDL receptor and enhanced cellular uptake of LDL cholesterol, resulting in lower plasma LDL cholesterol levels[2]. This effect is specific, as no association was observed between these variants and abnormalities in liver enzymes or blood glucose. These findings position ZNF529 as a promising therapeutic target for the treatment of dyslipidemia and the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, with modulation enhancing LDL clearance by upregulating LDL receptor pathways[2]. No specific drugs are currently known to interact with ZNF529, but inhibition of its activity represents a novel approach for cholesterol lowering therapies.
