Zinc finger protein 552 (ZNF552)

Target
ZNF552
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, KRAB domain-containing protein, C2H2-type zinc finger protein
01

Overview

Zinc finger protein 552 (ZNF552) is a human protein encoded by the ZNF552 gene, located on chromosome 19q13.43. It is a member of the Kruppel-associated box (KRAB) subfamily of C2H2-type zinc finger proteins, featuring an amino-terminal KRAB domain and seven carboxyl-terminal C2H2 zinc finger motifs. ZNF552 acts as a transcriptional repressor and inhibits the activity of transcription factors such as AP-1 and SRE, likely through its KRAB domain. The protein is primarily nuclear but also localizes to the cytoplasm in human tissues, with highest expression observed in the lung and testis. While it is predicted to play a role in gene expression regulation, ZNF552 is not currently recognized as a therapeutic target, and no direct disease associations, interacting drugs, or clinical biomarker applications are established.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable (no drugs targeting ZNF552; general mechanism is repression of AP-1 and SRE transcriptional activity via its KRAB domain if experimentally manipulated)

03

Biological functions

Transcriptional repressionRegulation of transcription by RNA polymerase IIMay function in gene expression modulation
04

Disease associations

Other (no well-established direct link to major disease classes; some general references implicate Kruppel-like factors in cancer and development, but ZNF552 is not explicitly linked to a specific disease)
05

Safety considerations

None known (no clinical safety or therapeutic challenges documented for targeting ZNF552)
06

Interacting drugs

None known (no established drugs interacting with or targeting ZNF552)
07

Biomarkers

None known (ZNF552 is not currently used as a clinical biomarker)
