ZNF556
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein, C2H2-type zinc finger protein

Overview

Zinc finger protein 556 (ZNF556) is a member of the zinc finger protein family, characterized by the presence of one or more zinc finger domains, commonly of the C2H2 type, which enable DNA binding and function as transcription factors[1][2]. The ZNF family is one of the largest families of transcription factors in eukaryotes and plays crucial roles in regulating gene expression, chromatin remodeling, cell proliferation, and other essential cellular processes[1][2][5]. While many zinc finger proteins have been extensively studied for involvement in cancer, neurodegeneration, and other diseases, specific information about the biological or disease roles of ZNF556 is currently lacking in the literature. There is also no report of drugs targeting ZNF556, nor any known use as a biomarker or specific safety concerns related to modulation of this protein. The general properties and mechanisms of zinc finger proteins can be applied, but claims about ZNF556 itself should be made cautiously until further experimental evidence is available[1][5].
