Overview

Zinc finger protein 57 (ZNF57, also called ZFP57 or Zinc finger protein 424) is a nuclear transcription factor containing KRAB zinc finger domains, which enable DNA binding and regulation of gene expression through modulation of DNA methylation. ZNF57 plays a significant role in the maintenance of DNA methylation at imprinted genomic regions, enabling heritable gene silencing or activation as needed for normal development and metabolism. Mutations in ZNF57 are linked to conditions such as transient neonatal diabetes mellitus and can disrupt normal imprinting, leading to a generalized impairment of gene silencing across multiple loci[1][2][4]. There is no current evidence establishing ZNF57 as a direct drug target or with approved therapeutic modulators.
