ZNF596
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein

Overview

Zinc finger protein 596 (ZNF596) is a protein encoded by the ZNF596 gene. It belongs to the zinc finger family of proteins, which are characterized by the presence of structural motifs that coordinate zinc ions and typically function as transcription factors within the nucleus. ZNF596 is predicted to enable DNA-binding transcription factor activity that is RNA polymerase II-specific, regulating gene expression in a sequence-specific manner. Its biological role stems from its ability to bind particular DNA regions and regulate transcription. While a paralog exists (ZFP90), direct involvement in disease is limited to possible association with Retinitis pigmentosa. Currently, ZNF596 is not targeted by approved drugs and is not considered a therapeutic target in clinical practice[2][3][6][7].
