Overview

Zinc finger protein 606 is a nuclear transcription factor encoded by the ZNF606 gene in humans[1][4][6][8]. It contains an N-terminal Kruppel-associated box (KRAB) domain and multiple contiguous C2H2 zinc finger motifs, characteristic of a large family of transcriptional regulators[1][2][5]. ZNF606 acts as a transcriptional repressor, notably inhibiting growth factor-mediated signaling pathways and suppressing SRY-box 9 (SOX9) activity by preventing SOX9’s DNA binding[1][4][10]. Reduced expression of ZNF606 is linked to enhanced chondrocyte differentiation, suggesting a role in cartilage development[1][4]. Associated indirectly with adult hepatocellular carcinoma, its biological functions include gene silencing, regulation of cellular signaling pathways, and potentially influencing cellular differentiation and proliferation[1][4][9]. There is currently no evidence that ZNF606 is a direct therapeutic target or that drugs directly interact with it, and no specific safety or biomarker data are available.
