Zinc finger protein 62 (ZFP62) is a member of the Cys2His2-type zinc finger protein family, functioning primarily as a DNA-binding transcription factor implicated in the regulation of gene expression by RNA polymerase II[2][3][4][5]. It is ubiquitously expressed in human tissues, with high levels in the thymus, thalamus, thyroid, kidney, prostate, testes, and ovaries[3]. The protein contains 26 Cys2His2 zinc finger motifs which facilitate sequence-specific DNA binding. ZFP62 interacts with other RNA-binding proteins (e.g., KNOP1, PUM3, RBM34, RPL14, RPL37A)[3], and plays roles in transcriptional activation, gene regulation, and potentially skeletal muscle differentiation[2]. Clinically, ZFP62 has been studied in association with leukemia, brain aging and inflammation, and as a candidate therapeutic target for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection, although direct drug interactions and safety concerns remain underexplored[3].
