Overview

Zinc finger protein 626 (ZNF626) is a protein coding gene located on chromosome 19. It is predicted to function as a DNA-binding transcription factor, enabling RNA polymerase II-specific and cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding. As a member of the zinc finger protein superfamily, ZNF626 is structurally characterized by zinc finger motifs, likely of the classical C2H2 type, which are stabilized by zinc ions coordinating with histidine and cysteine residues. These motifs are highly diverse and allow for interactions with DNA, RNA, and protein substrates. ZNF626 is thought to play a role in the regulation of DNA-templated transcription within the nucleus, and is among thousands of ZNF transcription factors contributing to fundamental cell processes such as transcriptional regulation, cell differentiation, apoptosis, and protein-protein interactions. There is no current evidence linking ZNF626 directly to disease mechanisms, clinical applications, or drug targeting, distinguishing it from other well-studied ZNF family proteins.
