Overview

Zinc finger protein 644 (ZNF644) is a multi-zinc finger transcription factor that plays a role in the regulation of gene expression by binding specific DNA sequences and targeting regulatory protein complexes to chromatin[1][5][3]. ZNF644 is a core subunit of the G9a/GLP histone methyltransferase complex, participating in the targeting of this complex to specific gene loci for histone H3 lysine 9 (H3K9) methylation and transcriptional repression[1]. Mutations in ZNF644 have been associated with sporadic cases of high myopia in humans[5][3]. The protein contains multiple zinc finger motifs, enabling sequence-specific binding to DNA and facilitating its function in chromatin remodeling and repression of gene transcription[1][5][3]. There are currently no known approved drugs that directly target ZNF644, and it has not been established as a direct therapeutic target.
