Overview

Zinc finger protein 654 (ZNF654) is a member of the Krüppel C2H2-type zinc finger protein family and is encoded by the ZNF654 gene on human chromosome 3 (at 3q25). It is a predicted DNA-binding transcription factor, mainly active in the nucleus, and is believed to participate in the regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II[5][2][1][4][7]. As a C2H2-type zinc finger protein, ZNF654 belongs to the largest class of zinc finger proteins, which are typically involved in recognizing specific DNA sequences and facilitating gene expression regulation[3][4]. The biological function of ZNF654 specifically remains incompletely characterized; however, the zinc finger protein family broadly plays key roles in chromosome structure, genome stability, and regulation of fundamental cellular processes like transcription, cell cycle, and DNA repair[3]. Currently, ZNF654 is not established as a direct therapeutic target or associated with any approved drugs. Its potential disease associations are limited, though it has been linked to rare pontocerebellar hypoplasia type 10[5]. Misregulation of related zinc finger proteins has broader implications in cancer and genome stability, suggesting that ZNF654 and related proteins may have important but underexplored roles in human disease[3]. No direct safety concerns, biomarker roles, or drug mechanisms are reported for this specific target.
