Zinc finger protein 668 (ZNF668)

Target
ZNF668
Molecular classification
Transcription factor (C2H2-type zinc finger family), DNA-binding protein
01

Overview

Zinc finger protein 668 is a Krüppel-type C2H2 zinc finger transcription factor characterized by 16 C2H2-type zinc finger domains and is located in the nucleus. ZNF668 functions as a tumor suppressor, regulating p53 stability and DNA repair by interacting with the ubiquitin ligase MDM2, thereby protecting p53 from degradation. Its molecular activity supports chromatin relaxation and loading of DNA repair proteins upon damage, including homologous recombination repair. Mutations or reduced expression of ZNF668 have been associated with increased invasiveness and poorer prognosis in breast and bladder cancers, and germline mutations cause neurodevelopmental disorders. It is primarily studied as a cancer-relevant transcription factor but may also be involved in other processes linked to DNA regulation and chromatin structure.
