Zinc finger protein 699 (ZNF699) is a human protein encoded by the ZNF699 gene on chromosome 19p13[1][3]. It is a putative transcription factor in the zinc finger protein family, predicted to bind DNA and regulate the transcription of genes via RNA polymerase II[2][3][5]. ZNF699 is the human ortholog of the Drosophila hang (hangover) gene, which has been studied for its role in alcohol tolerance in flies; in humans, variants in ZNF699 have been associated with susceptibility to alcohol dependence[2]. Pathogenic variants in ZNF699 cause a rare genetic disorder known as Developmental Delay with Gastrointestinal, Cardiovascular, Genitourinary, and Skeletal Abnormalities (DEGCAGS syndrome), which presents with multisystem developmental anomalies[4]. ZNF699 is not currently considered a therapeutic target, and no specific drugs are known to interact with this protein.
